Brian J. Gitkin is set to release ‘Golden Age’ on October 18, via Wonderwheel Recordings. Ten tracks long, the album is a showcase of where he’s up to right now with his guitar-driven sound.

Taking inspiration from the music of Colombian cumbia, North Africa, and the Middle East, Gitkin imbues them with his own personality and sound that’s steeped in the rhythms of New Orleans.

While Brian has a great voice, and has led plenty of bands in his time, including Pimps Of Joytime, among others, for the Gitkin project his focus is instead on the instrumentals; wordless moods and melodies. Think The Shadows, standing apart from Cliff Richard.

‘The One’ is reminiscent of The Shadows as well. While clearly a product of today’s modern techniques, there’s an element to the guitarwork that feels like Hank Marvin would be quite at home strumming away.

In saying that however, there’s far more to ‘The One’ than nostalgic vibes. Brian J. Gitkin himself described it as,

“Sudanese synth-trance mixed with Tuareg, Black Sabbath, and 2000s-era hipster disco”

‘The One’ is gloriously aloof, guitar chords floating mesmerisingly along a wave of percussion. The track compels the listener to contemplate how on earth Gitkin manages to make the sounds he pulls out of his guitar. Does he use loops? Is it all just finger-work? Is he even using a guitar? Close your eyes and drift away on the sonic vibes, while considering what Gitkin says about his music:

“My goal when creating is to think as little as possible and do what feels good,” he says. “I don’t overthink creating. If I wake up with a groove in my head or melody idea I just go into my studio and record it.”

‘Golden Age’ is out October 18th via Wonderwheel Recordings.
