She’s shooting straight down the line, spitting some home truths about what other people think, and all the while telling the listener that it doesn’t matter a damn thing what they think – just be yourself and do your own thing: life is short, you may as well live it the way you want to.
And while she’s doing this, Kimberly’s band are giving it their all – doing their thing – with a twangy bluegrass country vibe that will have you swinging your partner round and round. I might be getting a little carried away here, but hey! Why not! If people don’t like it, then, tough.
York’s vocals are just exquisite; she’s really got the perfect pipes for a country song, and she’s a dab hand at a pop tune too. I may be so bold as to suggest she’s the perfect successor to the Mighty Dolly: she has a gift for telling a story and doesn’t hold back in what she wants to say.
“It’s between you and your soul what you do to grow old” – these are lyrics to live by. In the end, it doesn’t matter what you do, people aren’t going to like it anyway.
