The Formalist Take Us For A Nostalgic Trip With New Lyric Video, ‘A=N’

‘A=N’ is the latest single from The Formalist’s 2023 album, ‘A Trace Of Yourself’. The duo, comprising Stephen Krieger and Erik Laroi, make music that transports you from darkness into light, with intelligent, cultured, and mysteriously complex lyrics and music.

‘A=N’ combines hypnotic beats and synth textures from Krieger, and combines them with Laroi’s haunting vocals, creating a reflective song about remembering and forgetting, nostalgia and anticipation, and the listener will be delving deep into their own mind palaces to bring back from the past those things they’d long let go.

The centrepiece of the thoroughly enjoyable album, ‘A=N’ also serves as a gorgeous trip down the alleys of one’s mind, exploring a deeper consciousness that one might never have before considered.

The track is accompanied by a lyric video, directed by Stephen Krieger himself An electric light radiates from the streets, while everything is blurred, and the air is filled with an almost ghostly halo. There are people on the streets, going about their life, transient, elusive, here one second then gone the next, melting into the city, evoking feelings of nostalgia. Even the written lyrics feel sort of nostalgic, resembling neon lights, briefly shining before fading away, forever.
