Versatile and accomplished musician Scott Albert Johnson is known for his talent as a multi-instrumentalist – particularly the harmonica – powerful vocals, and incredible songwriting skills. The artist, who was born in St Louis, and raised in Jackson Mississippi, brings inspiration from the blues, jazz, rock, and country, and new single ‘Invisible’ calls on all of these genres.
Scott Albert Johnson’s dedication to his craft over the years has separated him from the crowd, and his talent for employing multiple genres in his music, as well as his ability to forge a deep connection with audiences, has secured his position as a musical innovator, and given his sound universal appeal.
‘Invisible’, his latest release, is a call to action for all of us to stay strong during these challenging times. Exploring the issues surrounding us, encouraging us to confront the fears about what lays ahead, the track is pretty much a one-man show, with all the instrumentals, bar the drums, played and programmed by Scott. He also produced, mixed, and engineered the track, while his son Charlie provided the backing vocals to Scott’s lead.
Additionally, the accompanying music video was crafted by Scott, with him capturing the zeitgeist, and employing his life experience as a musician, counsellor, and father. Johnson is a wry social observer, and his music gives a voice to those who sense something is off kilter, but lack the power to express it.
‘Invisible’ features Johnson as a sketch-like animation, increasing the dreamlike quality of the song, and the creative approach itself enhances the emotion, allowing for a camaraderie between artist and listener. The symbolism of Johnson being wary about entering the ocean is a metaphor for embracing what it is that lies ahead of us; by the end of the clip, he is fully immersed, and his fears have vanished.
