Out now, ‘MORNINGS’ is the debut anthem from Bulgarian EDM artist, D’ISCO. The track was released on June 16, and is available to stream and download here.
While this is the debut solo release from D’ISCO, he’s no newbie when it comes to music. Originally from Dulovo, Bulgaria, he started his musical journey many years ago, when the country was undergoing its tumultuous transition from Communism to the Republic it is today. D’ISCO found his sanctuary in Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, and with a group of friends, the passionate musician formed the band DULLO. The sextet took their inspiration from each member’s enthusiasm, and regardless of stumbling blocks such as the difficulty in finding musical instruments, their energy and fervour propelled them.
Sadly, the band was short-lived, with compulsory military service meaning DULLO had to be disbanded. Nonetheless, D’ISCO’s musical journey continued, recording acoustic songs with lead singer Bogdan Bogdanov, which, although only rudimentary recordings, received encouraging feedback from radio hosts.
What followed next was a 20 year hiatus from music for D’ISCO, but now he’s re-emerged as an EDM artist, with his sound reflecting his experiences.
New single, ‘MORNINGS’, sees D’ISCO fuse analogue instrumentation with synths, and the sound draws as much from the likes of Pink Floyd as anything else. A largely instrumental track, ‘MORNINGS’ refuses to be restricted to any one genre, and the highs and lows of the soundscape reflect the vibes of the dawn of a new day: close your eyes and you can see the sun rising, and people going about their business as they start a new day.
Speaking about the track, D’ISCO said,
“I’d go out of work around 5am and wait for the bus to go home. It was incredible to watch how Sofia was waking up. Empty streets at the beginning. Suddenly, cleaning crews would show up, newspaper stands would start opening, people would show up and try to sell homemade doughnuts…. Every morning was different. It was amazing.”
D’ISCO was inspired to create the track in 2019, when he visited his homeland, and rediscovered tapes he’d recorded years ago. Picking sections and ideas from his past songs, he consolidated them into one track during the Covid-19 lockdown. During this time he learned how to produce music with Ableton, and was able to finally complete ‘MORNINGS’ a year later, after mixing and mastering from Austin Leeds.
