RnB Artist, Writer, And Producer Devontaii Represents Those Who Have Endured Toxic Relationships In New Video, ‘My Side’

The descendent of a long line of rhythm and blues singers, RnB artist, writer, and producer Devontaii is on a mission to fully revitalise the heart and soul of that musical genre. His passion is such that he is perfectly able to channel the emotional sincerity, so vital to RnB tracks, and his new single, ‘My Side’, sees him take on the challenge with the utmost pride and enthusiasm.

Based in Miami, Florida, Devontaii knows the music business well, having seen his relatives thrive in it in the 70s, as well as in his own career, which has seen him open for the legendary Isley Brothers. Drawing inspiration from this group, as well as the likes of Billie Holiday, Chaka Khan, and Baby Face, Devontaii’s songs have earned their place in the iTunes RnB Top 30. His latest single, ‘My Side’, has a classic RnB vibe, and coupled with Devontaii’s showstopping vocal ability, has meant that it’s garnered critical acclaim. The track, from his new EP, ‘LoversOnly2’, which was released on June 21, is just one of a series of irresistable tracks about love, loss, and life.

Devontaii started out as a producer, and so as a result he is passionate about developing beats that are filled with passion. With this he is able to make his visions a reality through music, and is able to tell the stories that are so rarely seen in the hip-hop and RnB songs of today; he’s rejected the tales of fast cars and lavish living, and restored those of authentic love and life, and in so doing, returned to the art that fills the heart and soul.

With ‘My Side’, Devontaii acknowledges that vulnerability is an inevitable side effect of loving deeply, and with lyrics such as “She don’t want to hurt no more…the pain gets restored”, he shows that he is truly on the same side as those who’ve endured the pain of toxic relationships. The music video, directed by BoJack Films, was so loved by fans that Devontaii decided to add ‘My Side’ to ‘LoversOnly2’, despite the EP already being completed.

While the video has all the usual signifiers of a contemporary RnB video – a beautiful woman, heavy chains, funky shades, and subdued pastel colours in a swanky apartment – it’s so much more than that. Watch right to the end for a shocking twist!
