‘Save Me’ is the new single from St Louis R&B and Hip-Hop singer songwriter, Stringz EMB. Featuring KV The Writer and the multi-talented Jay Marie, the soulful track comes with an elegant video, directed by Miguel Orjuela.
As KV The Writer sings, “Maybe before I save you, I should try to save myself.” We should all be considering our own well-being before trying to emotionally rescue a lover. If we’re not in the right place ourselves, we will come out second best every time, and we may end up resenting the other person.
It’s a dilemma confronting Stringz EMB and KV The Writer, accompanied by the smooth, honey-sweet backing vocals of Jay Marie. The heartfelt and beautifully written verses are presented in language that is at once poised and yet urgent, while the two artists sing of their unreadiness to make a romantic connection with another. The song tells stories in parallel of a couple who are trying to hold on, for dear life, to what they have, while at the same time thinking that perhaps the best course of action would be to let it go and move on.
The emotion in the song is palpable, and it flies high in this club-ready track. It’s laid back and smooth, yet sad and moving, and so it demands a music video of similar status. Thankfully Miguel Orjuela knows exactly what to do, and his clip for ‘Save Me’ doesn’t just underscore and intensify the song’s themes, but rather it adds to it, and broadens the story into a mini-movie. A couple receives a stroke of good fortune: one partner gets a job opportunity overseas, while the other is left behind in a stylish but austere apartment that mirrors his desolate inner state. He texts her, but they go unanswered, and he lets his imagination get away with him. Despite the couple being successful young city dwellers, and who seem happy together, it’s clear that they don’t have what it takes to save their relationship – or each other.
