We Speak With Chloe J About Her Music And Latest Single, ‘So Perfect’

Following on from our review of Chloe J’s latest single, ‘So Perfect’, we spoke to the incredible young artist herself.

Hi Chloe, thank you so much for speaking with us today.

Hello, it’s so great to speak with you as well!

For those who are new to your music, what’s the Chloe J story?

So…I started my music journey at a very young (age 4). I grew up IN and AROUND music. My grandpa is a Jazz Musician. Both of my great-grandparents were music teachers at the Music and Arts High School in NYC. And both of my parents are very musical.

I started professional vocal training and singing on large stages in front of live audiences, when I was just 5 years old.

By the time I was 7 years old, during my free time, I began to write songs just for the fun of it. The first song I ever wrote was called ‘Love Connection’.

The experience of growing up in a musical family, singing on stages in front of live audiences, and writing songs, led me to where I am now. Before the onset of the pandemic, I opened up for Billboard Charting Artist, Frankie Moreno, at The Smith Center, and for Oscar-Winning actress, MoNique, at the SLS Hotel.  I also sang the National Anthem, to a crowd of over 18,000 attendees, for the NHL Vegas Golden Knights.

The last few years I’ve been concentrating on writing and co-writing music, producing, and recording. I dropped my 11th single which is available on all music platforms.

Your single, ‘So Perfect’, talks about knowing your worth, and that you are perfect; what was your inspiration, and what do you hope listeners will take away from it?

The purpose of ‘So Perfect’ is to serve as an anthem. I want fans to feel complete peace with themselves when they listen to this song and to know that they are perfect exactly as they are.

I also want them to feel uplifted, accepted, and valued.

After listening to this song, fans should walk away confident, assured and knowing there is no need for them to change themselves for anything or for anyone.

The music video for ‘So Perfect’ shows you as an omniscient being over the earth – how did you come up with the concept?

The director of ‘So Perfect’ wanted to give the video a futuristic, celestial, out of this world feel. So, a lot of detail was also put into making my face look like a cyborg and my body almost shapeless. The video was then edited as a way to demonstrate how a celestial being would communicate with earth.

If all music was removed from the earth tomorrow, what would you do instead?

Music is a universal language.  If all music was removed from the earth, I believe we would all have problems communicating.  However, given that I also act and am a SAG-AFTRA actor, I would use my acting as a form of creative expression.

Who are your biggest influences musically? What about in life itself, who are your role models?

My biggest musical influences are Beyonce, Ella Fitzgerald, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Jazmine Sullivan, A Tribe Called Quest, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, Pharrell Williams, H.E.R, Tyler the Creator, Taylor Swift, Adele, Phoenix, Pink, Wolf Alice, Lady Gaga, MF Doom and Lizzie McApline.

My life role models are my parents, first and foremost. Then my managers and my entire team. I also admire actors Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Zendaya, and Frances McDormand.

What’s next for Chloe J?

Back-to-back singles are coming in the very near future.

I’ve been writing a lot of new music and have been in and out of recording studios throughout the year, so I’m looking forward to getting new music into the hands and onto the playlists of my fans.

I also just wrapped a commercial project, so stay tuned.

Finally, what question do you wish someone would ask you in an interview, but nobody ever does?

That’s a great question. So….I’d like someone to ask me what my astrological sign is and if I feel that I match up to my sign. I could talk about that topic for hours if asked, LOL!
