Sometimes when you’re onto a good thing, it doesn’t matter how long it takes for it to come to fruition, just so long as it does eventually get there. This can certainly be said for ‘I Think I’m Gonna Make It’, the new single from Soul Teller, which had its origins way back in 2009.
Back then, Soul Teller moved to the US from his homeland of Spain, and met Soul pioneer, Willie Mitchell, who agreed to produce ‘I Think I’m Gonna Make It’. Sadly, after working together for no more than a year, Willie passed away, but Soul Teller was determined his spirit live on, and asked Willie’s son, Lawrence “Boo” Mitchell, to take over and help him finish the song. Boo, who is best known for his work with Bruno Mars, among others, happily took on the task, and remembers having a lot of fun recording in Royal Studios, Memphis.
An uplifting soul song, ‘I Think I’m Gonna Make It’, is all about the power of love, and this shines throughout the track. Featuring some of the biggest Soul talents in the business, including Stax Records rhythm guitarist, Charles “Skip” Pitts, as well as The Memphis Horns.
Boo was touched and impressed by just how much Soul Teller was able to convey the Southern Soul style, especially considering he was from Spain. The artist, who is based between Madrid and London, is known in daily life by his real name, Miguel Angel Julian, has had a significant music career since 1989, when he started as songwriter and frontman for his band, The Cool Jerks, going on to release 10 albums with a variety of labels, and touring all over Europe. Miguel then moved to England, where he started a new project with a new band, The Soul Tellers. Thirty years in the music business and twelve albums later, Soul Teller has a back catalogue that spans more than 300 songs, and his talent is evident in every note.
‘I Think I’m Gonna Make It’ will appeal to fans of all music, but especially those who love wonderful Soul melodies, and the sound of Otis Redding and Sam Cooke.
