Although Jasmine Crowe hails from Hawaii, and Jonathan Fairchild from Southern California, it was the magnet that is Los Angeles that brought them together to combine their creative talents. ‘Poolside’ is their debut collaboration.
Jasmine is a violin virtuoso, and is also adept at guitar and piano, all of which feature at any time on the sons in her award-winning catalogue. Her 2019 single, ‘Chess Game’, hit the #28 spot on the Billboard Dance Charts, and she recently accepted the John Lennon Song Of The Year Award, with her single, ‘Breaking Things’, from the hands of Ringo Starr himself.
Jonathan Fairchild meanwhile grew up in Southern California, in a time when being gay was not acceptable. Nonetheless, he persevered, working professionally from the age of 8 as an actor, singer, and dancer, and nowadays he is known for his creative nous and his 20+ year music career. He’s toured with Lizzo, Kesha, and the late Aaron Carter among others, and he’s known as a thoughtful production and vocals, with songs such as, ‘Lover’, and ‘So Beautiful’, leaving a lasting impression on listeners.
Jasmine and Jonathan came together when Fairchild had been studying for his Cosmetology licence in Studio City. She was getting her hair done, and the pair hit it off. Later, in 2019, he hosted Sun.Day.Live., the first LGBTQ arts and music festival, where Crowe and her band performed. The pair renewed their friendship and their musical collaboration began.
‘Poolside’ is an absolute bop. Produced by Jasmine Crowe, it consolidates the entire Hollywood experience into one single setting: the LA pool party. Characterised by upbeat bass and dance-able percussion, infectious melodies and guitars transcend a synth and string sensation. The pair seduce us with their vocals, while warning us of the vampires that roam about, ready to suck out our very lifeforce.
The music video for ‘Poolside’ is energetic and tempting, providing a deeper look into the dangerous underbelly of the entertainment industry. Directed by Jeremy Eichenbaum, we follow Crowe, dressed in white, as she attends a pool party hosted by the devious Fairchild. Surrounded by villainous guests, she finds her way through the party, which eventually gives way to becoming a fun event for all. Is our heroine tempted over to the dark side? We’re left to make our own conclusions.
