guUs Is A ‘Moonhangin Man’ With Latest Jazz Single

Originally from The Netherlands, but now based in San Francisco, guUs is truly a man of the world, having also lived in London, England, and having a fascination with the deep south of the USA, and New Orleans in particular. New single, ‘Moonhangin Man’, sees guUs in a music video shot in and around his old stamping ground of Mile End, London.

Fusing Old World torch songs with sophisticated jazz, along with Tom Waits style blues, and a touch of psychedelia, and prog rock, guUs’s music sounds just as at home on the stage as it does on the radio. There’s more than a hint of gospel, something akin to the stylings of John Coltrane in the way guUs sings his creations. And they truly are his – with the exception of collaborations on sax and African drummers in the rhythm section, guUs does it all himself: he writes the lyrics, sings the songs, directs the videos, and plays all instruments. His almost languid vocals sit gossamer like on the breeze of the sax; the epitome of smooth.

The music video for ‘Moonhangin Man’ is perfectly matched to the song, with guUs strolling effortlessly through the deserted city streets of London after dark. While there could be a sense of unease due to the lack of people in the usually vibrant city, guUs’s vocals are calm and soothing, helping us to relax and know that all is well.

Check out guUs and his music online on his official website, Facebook, and Instagram. Watch the video for ‘Moonhangin Man’ below.
