Greg Hoy & The Boys Are Telling Us That It ‘Sure Got Cold After The Rain Fell’ In Their New Rock Single

We’ve long been fans of Greg Hoy here at Essentially Pop, and so when he releases a new song we sit up and listen. Now he’s back with his latest single, and it’s one that takes us for a trip down memory lane – Greg Hoy and the Boys have this time chosen to release a cover of a song that’s around 50 years old, if you can believe that – ZZ Top’s ‘Sure Got Cold After The Rain Fell’.

Last Autumn, Greg Hoy and the Boys were touring around the US in a ’73 Airstream, and filmed their adventures and their observations on retro-rock music. It became the web series, ‘Limited Mileage’. Through doing so they allowed fans a look at their lives on the road, and connected with them, no matter where they came from, or their demographic. There’s no doubt about it, this band has a passion for all things rock.

Explaining the choice of song, Hoy explains that it came from the events of the past few years:

“Part of the reason this song spoke to me is the breakup of lots of things. The breakup of systems we trusted, I’ve had people close to me pass away…I’ve advanced that to the idea of accepting loss and that everything isn’t permanent”.

The music video for ”Sure Got Cold After The Rain Fell’ captures a soulful feeling, almost mournful – while breathing a modern life feel into the already timeless lyrics. The clip also fully encapsulates the power and emotion behind the song, by way of the band’s performance. Greg is seen as a struggling artist living in his Airstream, while haunted by the thought of his former lover. The band have gone out of their way to give this iconic song the honour it deserves, while at the same time, showcasing the band’s talent and artistry.
