Rebecca Blasband – ‘Here’

The Real World is a long running MTV series, which first started back in 1992. Rebecca Blasband was in that first season, and has since gone on to be a singer songwriter, and screenwriter. Back in 2018 we premiered her single, ‘Fool’s Heaven’, from her album ‘HERE’. Now she returns with the title track from the album.

The songs on ‘HERE’ are a collaboration with the spirit of John Lennon, who Blasband says she first met with a group of friends, while studying at New York University. In 1991 she and Lennon’s spirit reconnected, and collaborated on 11 songs until the year 2000.

‘Here’, which comes with a music video of Blasband in a variety of locations, including the beach, a forest, and a wide open field, is an upbeat guitars and keys track, with Rebecca’s vocals feeling somewhere between folk and country. It’s a pleasing tune that benefits from multiple listens. Although Blasband stresses the album isn’t a Lennon album, there’s definitely been some of his influence over the title track.
