With a video directed, storyboarded and edited by the global megastar himself, ‘Pretty Please’ is the new single for Jackson Wang, who has teamed up with multi-platinum selling dance-pop duo, Galantis. The single is out now via 88rising, and distribute by 12tone.
Wang pays homage to the classic Hong Kong Chinese films he grew up watching, and in the clip we see him performing high energy choreo, alongside his frequent collaborators, the globally acclaimed dance group, Kinjaz. Add to this the cinematic elements common to Hong Kong Chinese films and some kick-ass beats, Jackson once again demonstrates he has his finger on the pulse when it comes to his approach to dance-pop music, with a song that is guaranteed to rock the socks off people from all over the world.
Wang uses throughout the video the theme of the loyalty of wolves to their mates, and it soon becomes apparent that it is an analogy for his pursuit of his one true love. The ending is ambiguous, leaving the audience wondering if it had been real or just a dream, with both opening and closing scenes showing him sitting in a restaurant.
Speaking about ‘Pretty Please’, Jackson Wang said,
“This collaboration with Galantis is an honour. It’s been fun working with them and I can’t wait to meet them as soon as possible.
The song itself is a love story about me falling in love with a girl and confessing how much I adore her. I wrote the treatment, directed the video visually and creatively, and edited it. Growing up as a kid, I watched a lot of Hong Kong Chinese movies, which were the visual inspirations for this music video. I’ve admired so many actors in those movies, and I thought it’d be interesting to present this love story in the 90s Hong Kong Chinese vibe, mood, and tone.”
Christian Karlsson, who along with Linus Eklöw, aka Style Of Eye, make up Swedish electronic dance duo Galantis, expressed his joy at working with Jackson:
“I was stoked to be able to collab with Jackson, as I’m such a big fan of his. Jackson sent me an idea that was so unique and I immediately fell in love with the song thinking about all the creative possibilities.”
‘Pretty Please’ is the follow up to Jackson Wang’s hit single, ‘100 Ways’, which, since its release back in March, has transcended all expectations with a massive 175 million + streams, and making Wang the first Chinese Solo Artist to ever enter Mediabase’s Mainstream Top 30 Chart, where he reached the #24 spot.
