Las Vegas artist Michelle Johnson’s style is best described as Carole King meets Ella Fitzgerald and draws from jazz, pop, soft rock, musical theatre, gritty blues, and soul. Her new single, ‘I’m All In’ is a showcase for her incredible talent.
Michelle’s skills have seen her in high demand, and she’s been a busy session singer and live performer since she graduated from Yale. With roots deep in the singer-songwriter style, Michelle’s music also contains traces of gospel and folk, and hearkens back to the golden age of radio before rock and roll. She still nonetheless maintains a contemporary sound, which would easily see her fit well within any pop playlist.
Michelle Johnson has recorded, performed with, or shared stages with some of the biggest names in music, including Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Barbra Streisand among many others. Michelle has toured and sung with Gladys Knight, supported Sugarland at the AMC Awards, and served as vocal arranger and soloist on HBOs Comic Relief.
She’s performed on ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno’; MTVs ‘120 Minutes’; ‘The Arsenio Hall Show’, and the legendary ‘Soul Train’: these are all testimony to her incredible vocal chops – and demonstrate her flexibility.
‘I’m All In’ is a soulful, jazz-infused ballad, but it’s so much more. It’s also a statement about Michelle Johnson’s commitment and dedication to everything she does. The video for ‘I’m All In’, directed by Rob DePew, captures her in quiet intensity as the electrifying singer she is. Along with her grand piano, Michelle is found in a breathtaking desert setting, surrounded by mountains – likely shot not too far from Las Vegas, where the singer is based. She is every bit the woman she has become – one who has achieved a great deal. We also see the little girl she once was however – alone and bewildered in a busy city, realising her burgeoning potential. Through the magical power of music, the pair meet, providing inspiration not just for each other, but for the audience as well.
