Broke Royals have been making music together since 2014, each song makes use of the vulnerability and exposure we all experience as humans trying to get along in life. Their latest single, ‘Saint Luxury’, is no less relatable than any of the other of their songs we’ve written about over the years, which have included ‘As Long As I Can See‘, ‘Higher’, ‘Bad Chemicals‘, and their seasonal release from last year, ‘The Christmas Cookie Blues‘.
There’s a flavour to their sound which, although very much their own, still betrays their Washington DC roots, with ‘Saint Luxury’ having all the nuance, raw emotion, and accessibility of all the other artists in the surprisingly vibrant music scene of the US capital.
The chemistry between Cross’ production skills and Basnight’s literary word-craft has become more compelling with each release, and it’s on full display here.
‘Saint Luxury’ is the first single from their upcoming album of the same name, and they take their urgent, anthemic guitar rock and soulful melodies in as many directions as they’ve got songs, with their latest yet another major leap forward.
In the video we are introduced to Saint Luxury, an angel who’s had it with Heaven. The clear-sky clean notes and rhythmic propulsion convey the celebratory sadness of departure and the breathless hope that lies in whatever awaits. She’s taking the first plane out of heaven to trade in her answers for questions.
