Kevin Edward’s ‘Broken Wings’ is a beautiful track with an even lovelier music video filmed on the island of Boracay, in The Philippines.
‘Broken Wings’, which premiered on MTV and is making its presence felt in the indie rock scene, is from the New York Jersey based indie artist’s debut album, ‘I Will Find You’. Kevin Edward turned to music as an outlet for overcoming substance abuse, and it’s literally saved his life, giving him a focus. He counts among his influences the likes of Radiohead, Cursive, Dallas Green (City and Colour), Taking Back Sunday, and Brand New, and these are certainly in evidence when listening to his haunting and catchy riffs and melodies. ‘Broken Wings’ is worthy of repeat plays and should definitely find its way to many radio and streaming playlists.
The song tells the story of two Angels in heaven who fall in love. When God finds out about their affair, he banishes the male character to Earth. The female character tries to find a way to one day to repair his broken wings, and get him back. Opening with an ethereal musical introduction, it quickly transcends genres, and seamlessly passes through reggae, pop, and rock, with Kevin Edward and guest vocalist Anna Simmons conveying the story, through perfectly complementary vocals. The video shows the couple missing each other, thinking back to happier times. At the end we see the couple standing together, but it’s left up to the viewer to decide if it’s a happy ending or a flashback to before.
‘Broken Wings’ is available to download from his Patreon site, for $2. You can also find Kevin Edwards online on his official website, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
