We’ve been talking about John Paciga for years now and yet, somehow, this musical supernova is still only 19. Now at Yale, where he’s the musical director of that University’s century-old a cappella group, ‘The Yale Spizzwinks(?)’, he’s honed his voice and performance skills and has also managed to write new music, including his latest release, ‘No One Else’, straight off the back of a summer tour.
Owls & Lions aren’t just your usual wedding band. The New Jersey group show that you can have not just live music, but a band that plays original songs, with an original sound and approach. They make celebratory, stylishly rustic folk-rock, equally suitable for ceremonies, singalongs, parties, and quiet reflection, and their latest single, ‘God Bless You & Protect You’, although addressed to a child, could as easily work for a spouse, a parent, or a dear friend.
The Stolen have over the years been recognised by the likes of MTV, Billboard, and Alternative Press, and have shared stages with artists such as Neon Trees, All American Rejects, and Jake Miller, and have also played Vans Warped Tour. The New Jersey band’s single ‘Overboard’, released earlier this year, narrowly missed the top 20 on iTunes’ Alternative Chart, while other recent singles, ‘Change The Record’, ‘Stuck’, and ‘Rooftop’ illustrate where their sound is headed. New single, ‘Millennial’, comes ahead of their first full length, self-titled album, set for release on May 31. They’ll also be touring in support of the album.
Tris McCall isn’t just a musician, he’s also a journalist, having worked for Jersey Beat, NJArts, The Newark Star Ledger, NJ.com and many others. As a musician therefore his music is somewhat on the cerebral side, and as if to prove it, he’s also written an essay to go alongside his latest single, ‘Conspiracy Theory’.
A true Jersey Boy has a certain swagger, and isn’t impressed by awards or accomplishments, reputation or bankroll, but rather judges people by the way they act. A Jersey Boy looks with disdain at all the social climbing that goes on in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Jersey Boys don’t whine, but instead, puts their case forward in plain language.
Earlier this year we introduced readers to Eliza Arnone, an up and coming musical talent from New Jersey, with her debut release, the eight track album, ‘Red Coat’. Now she’s back with her latest single, ’10 Feet’, which comes complete with a music video. We’re proud to exclusively premiere it here on Essentially Pop!
RnB-pop fusion singer Alexis Keegan returns with ‘Gospel’, a high energy track that is guaranteed to get you dancing. Hailing from the streets of New Jersey, Alexis learnt very quickly that music was something that she wanted to pursue fulltime. She was 12 years old when her father was diagnosed with cancer and she decided to record Mariah Carey’s ‘Butterfly’ as a tribute. It was after this incredibly hard and sad period that Alexis realised her life ambition – to bring joy and relief to those in pain with her music.
