Hip-hop duo, Shaheed and DJ Supreme are from Birmingham Alabama and have performed with the likes of Akil (MC from Jurassic 5). Starting their collaboration in 2007, they released two critically acclaimed albums, ‘Health, Wealth & Knowledge Of Self’, and ‘Scholar Warrior’ (a remix album), before eventually signing to Birmingham label, Communicating Vessels.
They released their first album for Communicating Vessels in 2013 (third album overall), ‘Knowledge, Rhythm, and Understanding’. Praised by Impose Magazine for their “encyclopedic production skills”, and for keeping “the vibe and rhyme upbeat with the microphone love affair alive”, the duo won MTVUs The Freshmen contest, for their video, ‘Champions Of Truth’.
Now they’re back, with the video for their latest release, ‘Glorious Day’, from their album, ‘Knowledge, Rhythm and Understanding’. A feel good video, it starts out with the pair having a picnic in a Birmingham park. It’s a sunny day – glorious even – they’re surrounded by their loved ones, and even kick a soccer ball about. Nothing should be taken for granted, and yet, in the words of the song, “No matter what day it is, I can smile and be proud”.
The video is brightly coloured, with hypnotic and kaleidoscopic scenes illustrating the chorus, interspersed between those of the duo at the park. The song is set to a catchy backbeat and the rhyming is fast and furious.
Shaheed and DJ Supreme’s forthcoming album, ‘The Art Of Throwing Darts’ is out now, and features Akil The MC and Chali 2na, from J5, as well as Slug, from Atmosphere. It was mixed by Darrell Thorp, known for his work with Radiohead, Outkast, and Beck. It will be available as a Limited Edition CD and Digital download from Communicating Vessels.
