One could be excused for mistaking this band’s name for a possible catch phrase for the second half of this absurd year we’re currently living in, but aliensdontringdoorbells has little to do with the wreckage of alien craft at Roswell, or the “big reveal” that beings from another world walk among us. Instead, aliensdontringdoorbells are actually a musical crew of three, aboard a ship that brings with it their new single, entitled “Story”.
Mother Yeti are as elusive as the Himalayan Cryptid for whom they are named. First spotted in the Pacific Northwest circa 2012, their numbers have varied between two to as many as five members over the years. Their latest single, ‘My Best Please’, has a sound as hard to pin down as the band themselves, and ranges between punk, psych rock, and RnB. One thing we know for sure however – we love it.
Everything about San Francisco’s The Bobbleheads feels effortlessly classic: from their 12 string Rickenbacker guitars, to their sweet sweet multi-part harmonies, to the joy and love that emanates from their live performances, and to every single one of their releases. Formed in 2003, their latest single, is a hopeful track from their most recent album, ‘Myths & Fables’.
If you’re unfamiliar with X Ambassadors, we recommend you make your acquaintance pronto with the trio from Ithaca, New York. Their new long player, ‘ORION’, is only the second studio album from the band on the KIDinaKORNER/Interscope label, but it’s already making an impact with the single releases, ‘Boom’, ‘Hey Child’, and ‘Hold You Down’, as well as the recent track, ‘Confidence’, featuring K.Flay.
Canadian band Marianas Trench have been around for the best part of twenty years, forming in 2001, releasing five albums since then, and touring extensively, most often around Canada and the USA, but also in Australia, the UK and Europe. At London’s KOKO venue, during their UK tour in May 2017, lead singer Josh Ramsay said how he was humbled at how many people were at the show, especially considering they had never released an album in the UK. The venue was packed solid, made up of fans, the curious, and media. All left impressed and wanting more. This year, Marianas Trench *have* released an album in the UK, the magnificent ‘Phantoms’, written around the theme of being haunted by the memory of people in our past. Lisa had the chance to speak to Josh Ramsay, and asked him about the album, the songwriting process, and just when they were hoping to get back to the UK.
Sonic Rade are a Swiss Pop trio with three albums under their belt: ‘Let It Out’ (2013); ‘Sideways’ (2016); and their brand new self titled album, ‘Sonic Rade’, released this year. Their music is high energy mixed with shades of melancholy, and their latest single, ‘Let’s Dream Tonight’, comes with a video which sees them head for the heart of New York City – Times Square.
The Kooks have released their much awaited fifth studio album, ‘Let’s Go Sunshine’, via Lonely Cat/AWAL Recordings. The album coincides with a new video for ‘Four Leaf Clover’, which has been directed by Sophia + Robert, from Odelay Films, best known for their work with Kara Marni, and Grace Carter.
