Released on the 24th of July, ‘Sunset’ is the latest single from Hollow Star.
Feeling every bit like a cross between The Cure and New Order, with a dash or two of The Smiths thrown in, ‘Sunset’ has a nostalgic vibe that’s warm and welcoming, and that’s not just for fans of post-punk new wave music.
It’s not by accident that it sounds like this either – Hollow Star, the performing name of Micah Lopez, compares himself to the likes of Johnny Marr, and Robert Smith when he writes, and it’s certainly evident in the end result. It’s a great treat to listen to new music that sounds like the very best of the 80s, a time when – some of us may think at least – pop music was at its height.
Jangly guitars and a steady pounding drum beat throughout the track ensures that Hollow Star’s vocals are well-supported, while he gives himself plenty of opportunity to show off his musical talents with soaring solo licks. And while his playing is characterised by perfectionism, there’s much more to it – there’s an urgency to Hollow Star’s sound that feels like he needs to get everything out of himself – right now. And that’s just awesome.
‘Sunset’ is out now and can be streamed and downloaded here. You can find out more about Hollow Star and his music online on his official website, Facebook, and Instagram.
