Out on the 17th of July, ‘Long Time Coming’ is the debut album from independent pop and electronic artist, Loraine. Originally from The Netherlands, raised in Belgium, and now based in Portland, Oregon, USA, Loraine has come a long way, both physically and musically.
‘Long Time Coming’ is available to pre-save here.
Comprising eleven tracks, ‘Long Time Coming’ is Loraine’s first full length album, following on from the release of two electronic pop EPs. Loraine wrote all the tracks, and the album was produced in collaboration with Germany based producer, Stella Scholaja. ‘Long Time Coming’ has a distinct 1980s vibe, meshed with modern pop and electronic production values.
The title of ‘Long Time Coming’ derives from both the lengthy creation process, and her physical journey, having relocated with her husband and dog from Belgium to the US during the creation of the album.
All vocals were recorded in Loraine’s bedroom studio, marking the DIY ethic of the whole release. The songs mostly started with a melody, which often arose naturally while she was going about her everyday life – relaxing, having a shower, and so on. From there she gave them themes, and lyrical concepts, and developed them further, attaching deeply personal experiences.
Loraine’s life-long musical upbringing is reflected in her songs, which immediately resonate with listeners. Her mother was a music teacher, and surrounded her with music from a young age. She started singing as a child, then moved onto studying clarinet, and performing across Europe in concert bands and orchestras. Songwriting then became her primary outlet, creatively, leading to crafting her own identity as a singer-songwriter.
