When Rob Bellamy retired from professional hockey at the age of 30, he decided, rather than take it easy, to rekindle his childhood love for music, and packed up and moved to Nashville, despite not knowing a single person out there. While it was hard work, the gamble paid off, and before too long he was not just writing songs and touring alongside some of that City’s finest, but he’d also met fellow artist and future wife, Ayla Brown.
On ‘Cold Country’ Rob Bellamy is joined by The Rebel Hearts, a collection of musicians from New England, united in their hunger to capture the spirit of their home. Their songs take from the real stories and sounds of the American identity, with their tales of cold winters, long roads, fresh air, and hard work.
With raw songwriting, resonant vocals, ringing guitars, and driving drumlines, the band are rolling out new singles every few weeks through the summer, finishing with their debut full-length album, ‘Northern State Of Mind’. Like the band, the album promises to be just as expansive and compelling.
The music video for ‘Cold Country’ sees the band out in the backwoods of New Hampshire, where they perform around a fire, the chill in the air evident in Bellamy’s gravelly vocals which accompany the rock guitars and strident drums.
The band whip up a soul-stirring performance, their breath coming out like vapour clouds. They’re loving every minute of it though, their eyes are literally twinkling in the firelight – they’re exactly where they’re meant to be.
