Ben E. Davis Finds Healing As He Sings An Ode To His ‘Hometown’

Ben E. Davis pulls his focus inward on healing, using music as a vessel for catharsis with his latest release, ‘Hometown’.

Taking his inspiration from both the hard and tender moments of his real life, Ben E. Davis has managed to create tracks that enrapture his listeners, who find solace in his relatable subjects. His music speaks directly to those uniquely human trials we all face, written from the point of view of someone who has lived through them.

With his latest single, ‘Hometown’, Ben E. Davis reflects on the feelings of abandonment and confusion that occurred when a good friend broke their connection, following a good change in fortune.

With mellow harmonies, passionate refrains, and a soft instrumental undercurrent of lush strings, supported by a steady groove, ‘Hometown’ is packed full of longing, and a tangible weight of pain. Davis steps forward and speaks his truth; while he may be broken, bewildered, and disappointed, he’s still hopeful for a reconciliation. He could easily have unleashed a torrent of hurt, but instead wishes only to rekindle the flame of friendship he once had, with the one he had hoped would “share the dream” alongside. He concedes, “I might’ve been blind, but the fault wasn’t all mine”.

Although he’s travelled the world for his professional singing career, and is known for being ‘An American Boy In London‘, Ben E. Davis knows that everyone will always come from their ‘Hometown’. The further one drifts from it – big city or small village – the harder the pull back to that place. In the music video for ‘Hometown’, which was filmed in collaboration with Oliver Wang at Emerium Studio, we see Davis wandering the streets of a suburban California haven. He realises the nostalgic tastes of home are exactly what he needs, in order to clear his mind, and fully process the heartbreaking experience of losing a dear friend.

The end of the clip sees Davis lay everything on the table, as he accepts that the friendship may be beyond saving. He nonetheless finds peace and comfort in the memories, each corner of the town reminding him that change is inevitable. But the end of the story sets the start of a new one, and we will have to wait patiently to see what happens next.
