Monique Staffile, the frontwoman of The Infamous HER, knows what it’s like to not want to squeeze yourself into any one mould or thinking, and new anthemic single, ‘Born Outta Step’ will resonate with those who feel this way.
With her powerhouse vocals and don’t-mess-with-me attitude, Monique invites listeners to “expect the unexpected,” casting asunder the conventions of the status quo. Never standing still in terms of genre, the band’s sound evokes glam, new wave, punk, and country pop, all while giving it their own edge.
‘Born Outta Step’ is supported by a thick bassline, while calling to mind the folk songs that moved to the US with the Irish diaspora. Written in Nashville on St Patrick’s Day, and bolstered by Guinness and Jameson Whiskey, The Infamous HER radiate warmth as they sing for their offbeat friends – “all the freaks and misfits we love”. Co-written alongside drummer Tyler Kloewer and producer/accordion player Caleb KBC Sherman, the accordion-driven track is a rallying cry, fiery and liberating.
The music video for ‘Born Outta Step’ is just as boisterous and unserious as the song itself. We start out in a front room jam session, before soon finding ourselves at a wild party where everyone is encouraged to be themselves – or anyone they want to be. Arm in arm, cups raised to the sky, we dance like there’s no tomorrow – because nothing else but the here and now matters in the world. Tomorrow is never guaranteed, so we may as well enjoy ourselves right at this moment.
