Shaheed & DJ Supreme Join Forces With Birmingham Public Library On New Hip Hop Video, ‘Knowledge Of Shelf’

Joining forces with the Birmingham Public Library, Shaheed & DJ Supreme have created a fun and educational Hip Hop track, ‘Knowledge Of Shelf’ The song is about the importance of literacy and supporting local libraries. The track is accompanied by a video created by Dmot Productions.

It’s easy to forget just how much local libraries have. Beyond books, in this technological age they can offer internet access, a quiet place to study or recharge, endless research resources, and a true sense of community. Growing up, Shaheed practically considered the library to be a second home. The son of a school principal, he was always surrounded by books and learning. Meanwhile, DJ Supreme had a similar experience, with his librarian aunt fostering in him a love for books. It’s this early connection that later shaped their artistic collaboration.

The music video, focused on Birmingham Public Library, aka the “Downtown Branch”, encourages people to rediscover their library, and lyrics such as “We must go visit the library / ’Cause reading books can expand your whole vocabulary” lead the way. Brittney Decker, the much loved evening anchor from NBC WVTM 13, even makes a cameo after she arrived to cover the shoot. Shaheed & DJ Supreme pay homage and honour to an historic and irreplaceable institution, in a celebration of the smell of books, the nostalgia of turning pages, and the inspiration that only knowledge can bring.
