Ron Brunk never stops. He’s always exploring new ways of expanding not just himself and his music, but also the human experience itself. And he does this with humour and chaos, his offbeat mixes telling countless tales from a life he now lives well, a world away from how he used to be. New single, ‘Good Morning’ sees him implore listeners to join him in his joy – and dance the blues away.
The Ron Brunk we now see is nothing like the embittered, gloomy man he used to be. Thanks to his faith, and his family, he’s been healed, and through his music he has found a way to tune into what the Universe has to say to him, and to us all. ‘Good Morning’ came to Ron in 90 seconds flat, one morning while he was just dancing about the kitchen, “bebopping with his Brussels sprouts, cha-chaing with his carrot sticks”. He immediately put down his veggies and put the song on paper. Later on, he called on his good friend and fellow recording artist Gordon Mote, and together they brought the track to life in his home studio. Vocalist Melissa Graham completed it with her beautiful harmonies, ensuring that it was perfect.
Backed by a simple piano melody, ‘Good Morning’ floats along like a lullaby or a children’s song, with Melissa Graham blending seamlessly with Brunk’s buoyant vocals, as he invites us to “take all your sorrows, and throw them away”. It’s impossible to listen to this song and not come away feeling uplifted and with a smile on your face, and an encouraging assurance that every little thing’s gonna be alright.
The music video is the perfect accompaniment to ‘Good Morning’, with a chaotic horde of tabby kittens dancing their way around the kitchen, and the garden, as well as making the occasional attack on Ron himself, or “kneading biscuits” on his lap. Even the coldest, stoniest heart will melt while watching!
