Serving as the voice of a younger generation trying to find their way in the world, Samar In Silence brings with her honest introspection in new release, ‘Adulting’.
Despite a lifelong passion for music, Samar In Silence didn’t fully dedicate herself to the art until 2021, but she’s certainly not stood still since. With two studio albums under her belt so far, she’s proven that she’s here to stay, crafting tracks as vessels for expression, reflection, and healing, immersing herself deeply into every aspect of the artistic process. Samar In Silence isn’t just a voice, but she also writes the lyrics, creates her own beats and melodies, as well as developing the creative concepts for her music videos – among so much more.
As suggested by her moniker, Samar In Silence’s creations emerge from solitude, reflecting her lived experiences, and those emotions that come forth from them. Looking behind the proverbial curtain of the soul, Samar In Silence takes hold of the heavier topics that tend to hide in the dark corners of the mind, and has made it her quest to bring them out into the light, exposing them for what they are.
New single, ‘Adulting’, grasps hold of such topics, with all its feelings of guilt, failure, and spiralling self-doubt. Over a thumping electronic beat, Samar’s unique vocal style captures what we’ve probably all been through – she’s someone who “doesn’t feel like an adult at all”, Samar In Silence is able to fully convey the pain of examining the many layers of disconnection between age, and emotional maturity. “This track is for anyone who’s ever felt like they’re falling behind in the adulting race and the quiet panic of trying to keep it together when everyone else seems to have it figured out”, says Samar. “It’s a confession, a cry for clarity, and a reminder that you’re not alone in feeling lost”. We feel like we’re expected to “have it all together” by a certain age, but in this world of turmoil and unrest, it’s difficult to feel like we do. Samar admits with a brutal honesty, “It makes me feel so awkward. I should have more control over my independence, but I still feel stuck in my adolescence”.
With the visual for ‘Adulting’, Samar In Silence takes us back to those familiar childhood haunts, but with a twist. She’s dressed in a school uniform, but she’s somehow different to the rest of the class members, who are causing general mayhem, throwing papers an such like. She is wishing she could be somewhere else, but doesn’t quite know how to get there. Likewise, at home, her parents are constantly disappointed and frustrated by her perceived lack of maturity and responsibility. Samar sweeps the floor, as if trying to clean up the mess she’s made and get her life in order, but she’s overwhelmed by discouragement and confusion, and she’s left with her thoughts, wondering why she can’t “adult” like everyone else.
