Duane Hoover Leads Us Down A ‘Wayward Path’ Through His 60s Inspirations With Title Track Of Debut Album

The title track from Duane Hoover’s new album, ‘Wayward Path’ was released on April 25, and, like his previous single, ‘All Over Again‘, we’re once more given access to what makes this artist tick.

Nostalgic and guitar-led, ‘Wayward Path’ is a Hoover original that nonetheless sees him pay homage to the British Invasion artists that formed much of his inspiration. Hoover’s rich vocals command centre stage, backed by strident guitar riffs, while the drums set a rollicking pace,in a Keith Moon-esque fashion.

‘Wayward Path’ opens with a frantic, highly energised jangly guitar and strident drum combination, giving this instrumental an opportunity to shine before Hoover’s gnarly voice, which is, in a lot of ways is the vocal equivalent of the musical instruments, sharing a lot of the same sonic scratchiness.

While this is an original composition from Hoover, it’s nonetheless still very much inspired by his 60s British Invasion heroes, such as The Kinks, David Bowie, The Who, and The Rolling Stones. While previous release, ‘All Over Again’ was reminiscent of The Kinks’, ‘See Emily Play’, title track ‘Wayward Path’ draws from songs such as ‘Substitute’, from The Stones. We’re being led down a wayward path, as it were, to pick up the influences in Hoover’s music, and it’s not a bad thing at all.
