With an unparalleled rotation of rock veterans in their lineup, The Dead Daisies have more than earned their reputation as masters of soulful 70s style rock. Their sound keeps the blood pumping, not just with their fans, but also in rock and roll itself, as they share their passion and artistic prowess. Latest release, ‘Crossroads’, is a worthy introduction to their upcoming album,. ‘Lookin’ For Trouble’, which takes its inspiration from the deep musical history and legacy of the blues.
‘Lookin’ For Trouble’ came about during their late night jam sessions on blues classics, and so they set out, as vocalist John Corabi describes it, to reinvent “‘The Soul’ of music”. He adds,
“The Blues in my opinion has influenced EVERY genre of music we listen to,” he says, “I hope you love our interpretations of these songs as much as we loved playing them.”
One look at the thumbnail for ‘Crossroads’ and you’ll know exactly who it’s about. Originally released by Robert Johnson, in 1936, pioneer of the Delta Blues sound, it’s a song that’s steeped in deep lore and mystery, and is often credited as the foundation of modern blues. Legend has it that Robert Johnson met the Devil at a crossroads in Mississippi, and gave up his soul in exchange for for insane musical talent; whether or not there’s any truth to the story is a matter of speculation, but he was after all, the founding member of the 27 Club…so there’s that.
The Dead Daisies took a further step to steep their version in history, by recording at the iconic FAME Studios, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. John Corabi, David Lowy, Doug Aldrich, Michael Devin, and drummer Sarah Tomek certainly lived up to the statement above the door of the studios, “Through these doors walk the finest Musicians, Songwriters, Artists, and Producers in the World.” The track is peppered with soaring guitars, driving rhythms, and soul-drenched vocals that the fans will love.
The music video for ‘Crossroads’ is equally glorious, as it gives viewers an AAA pass to the band’s recording session. The FAME Studios are filled with a warm light, the perfect setting for these veteran musicians who lose themselves in the music, and give it their all. Additionally the clip contains scenes from the tale of the song, and they bring to life one of music’s most powerful legends.
