Released on August 16, ‘Never Ever Was’ is a powerful alt rock single from Brazilian artist, Blue Mar. The track is the title song from his new four track EP.
‘Never Ever Was’ is available to stream and download here.
With his disctinctive husky voice emphasising the raw emotion of the track, Blue Mar takes us through the pain experienced in heartbreak and longing. There’s a certain retro feel to the song, with its poignant guitar solo cutting deeply through the mix, the embodiment of the personal pain he’s experienced, and a reflection of the powerful lyrics which depict the difficulty he had in forgetting painful memories, and the effort taken to move on from a lost love –
“The pain is like playing with scissors / Inside of a fast ride / But no one is driving and you’re sitting on your own / You just buying, buying time”
It’s incredibly relatable; if we’ve ever loved we’ve also lost, and so we can know how Blue Mar feels, and share in his pain – hopefully it’s cathartic and can lead to healing.
Blue Mar’s musical talent, and in particular his guitar prowess, has seen him receive great acclaim for his previous releases, ‘Hurl’, and ‘The March Hare’, leading him to tours across the USA, South Africa, UK, and the rest of Europe. Following almost a year on the road, he started experimenting with samples, and retreated to the recording studio, working with Ian Flynn and Liam Hutton at Unwound Studios, London, and Pedro Serapicos at Alcachofra Studios in São Paulo. The collaboration resulted in Blue Mar blending indie rock sounds with the subtle grooves of Brazilian instrumentation. This can be seen on the ‘Never Ever Was’ EP, in particular track 3, ‘Tough Spell’.
The ‘Never Ever Was’ single and EP release preceded the drop of his new album, ‘OLIVEIRA’, which came out on October 11.
‘Never Ever Was’ is out now and can be streamed and downloaded here. You can find out more about Blue Mar and his music online on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Spotify, and Apple Music.
