Mobius Loop Release Immersive Genre-Bending Album, ‘Dance While You Can’

Eclectic and captivating trio, Mobius Loop, released their latest album, ‘Dance While You Can’ on August 1. The 8 track drop is a celebration of life, love, and defiance, and captivates listeners with their genre-bending blend of folk, and punk.

‘Dance While You Can’ is out now and can be streamed and downloaded here.

Comprising Alexander (AO) and Rose Orion, along with internationally acclaimed percussionist, Sean O’Hara (Seano Bongo), Mobius Loop formed in Preston, Lancashire, with AO and Sean performing locally as a duo, but they expanded when Rose joined. Their distinctive style incorporates musical influences including gypsy folk, ska, punk, and world music, has expanded and diversified through their experiences, which have also involved a time living in a caravan, and performances at squat parties.

‘Dance While You Can’ follows on from two live albums, ‘Once Upon An Infinite’, from 2015, and ‘Gemi’, released in 2018, as well as their first studio album, 2020 Vi5ion (2020).

‘Dance While You Can’ opens with the title track, and the uplifting and exuberant rhythms and lyrics provide a protective buffer over the deeply personal experiences that have gone into the writing of this album, which was deeply inspired by the death of Rose and AO’s infant son, who, despite his short time on earth, became a symbol of love and resilience for the band. Energetic and upbeat, the songs reflect the band’s courage, and unity, in tackling the taboos of society. “We’re all gonna die, so dance while you can”. It’s autobiographical in a way: the line about 8 8 8 and 3 lions arrived at the gate is a reference to the band’s formation on August 8, 2008. Additionally, there are 8 tracks on the album, and of course, the number 8 is a mobius loop.

It would be easy to dismiss Mobius Loop as a novelty; their music is fun and almost flippant. In reality however, they are deeply political, and take activism seriously – their mission statement on their website outlines it perfectly:

“MAY ALL BEINGS BE

FREE FROM SLAVERY

MAY EVERY CAGE BE

OPEN & EMPTY”

Their music addresses issues such as the importance of unionism, the exploitation of Big Pharma, self-sufficiency, pacificism, and anarchy. Track 3, ‘Overgrow The Universe’ discusses all of these issues, while at the same time providing a solution – growing hemp. This is taken further in track 4, ‘Freeze’, which discusses the governmental waste of money on things that don’t serve the people, and suggest that we should embrace things like off-grid tech and self-sufficiency, rather than relying on others.

Our personal favourite is ‘Not My King’, a song which does exactly what it says on the tin – speaks out about the ridiculousness of having a royal family in this day and age, and not only that, having to pay for them and such things as the coronation – despite the country being in an incredibly poor state financially. Why do we have to pay for it when the monarch is a billionaire?

In keeping with their mission, Mobius Loop were fully independent when it came to recording ‘Dance While You Can’. AO and Rose wrote and composed the album over several years, with Seano Bongo providing the dynamic percussion that holds the whole record together. AO took on additional roles as studio technician, mixer, and producer, ensuring it was even more personal.

‘Dance While You Can’ is out now and can be streamed and downloaded here. You can find out more about Mobius Loop and their music online on their official website, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Spotify, and Apple Music.
