We’re Entering The ‘Eye Of The Storm’ With Kristy Chmura, Ahead Of New Album ‘Inner Solstice’

Written and performed by Kristy Chmura, ‘Eye Of The Storm’ comes off her upcoming album, ‘Inner Solstice’. The track was a collaboration between Kristy, Depeche Mode drummer Christian Eigner, guitarist Damien Musto, and recording engineer/multi-instrumentalist Niko Stoessl.

‘Eye Of The Storm’ is out now, and can be streamed and downloaded on Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Spotify.

Kristy Chmura follows up her debut album, ‘Stained…Glass Heart’ and EP, ‘Where The Light Gets In’, with new album release, ‘Inner Solstice’. The long player is preceded by stirringly emotive single, ‘Eye Of The Storm’, giving new listeners a taste of what’s yet to come, and existing fans more of what they love.

Chmura’s vocals are powerful and fulsome, giving an anthemic quality to the instrumentals. Recorded at Lucky Penny Studios, in Caldwell, New Jersey, and engineered there by Damien Musto, Chmura’s long-time creative partner, the track combines synths, organs, guitar, drums, and harp, giving velocity to the already fiercely emotive music.

‘Eye Of The Storm’ sees Kristy explore new horizons in her sound, a bold re-entry into the creative sphere, following the Covid-19 pandemic, the death of her father, and the resultant overwhelming sorrow. Encouraged by Musto to keep pushing forward, she re-assessed both sides of her life, her personal and creative: Musto suggested they reach out to Christian Eigner, drummer for Depeche Mode (one of Chmura’s biggest influences) to ask if he would record drums for the song, and his acceptance saw the start of an ongoing collaborative creative relationship, resulting in 12 songs for a full length album.

Additionally, Eigner’s creative partner, Niko Stoessl came on board, and all four worked together to capture something very special. Speaking of the collaboration, Chmura said,

“Christian and Niko’s influence has changed my approach to writing by teaching me not to overthink the song so much or get caught up in harp parts,” she reflects, “which in a sense has freed me, allowing me to grow as an artist.”

She added,

“Working with them is inspiring; it’s like having a gym buddy that holds you accountable to show up and do your best and push yourself to grow past your comfort zone,” she continues. “Whenever the four of us are working on a new song the creative process always feels like a band working together; I love that. I’m so grateful that we have become friends through the music.”

‘Eye Of The Storm’ is out now. You can find out more about Kristy Chmura and her music online on her official website, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Spotify.
