The High Plains Drifters Are On Vacation With New Pop Single, ‘Summer Girl’

The High Plains Drifters have got those end of the summer blues, and their latest single, ‘Summer Girl (Redux)’ is here to tell the tale. It’s a different musical direction to their previous releases – tropical rock, with a twist – but it’s no less catchy and enticing.

The High Plains Drifters lead signer Larry Studnicky tells the woeful tale of a summer fling turned bad, and comes as close to Jimmy Buffett as you can imagine. Laid back and drawling, sultry and sardonic, matched with a music video that harks back to Ursula Andress’s unforgettable entrance in the James Bond film, ‘Doctor No’, the song is truly relatable to anyone who’s been caught out on a solo trip to the tropics, and let the sun go to their head a bit too much.

But while the singer relates the string of calamities that have befallen him, he’s not dragged down by it, and rather, laughs at himself, and all the other deluded saps who’ve likewise been duped by pretty girls paying them attention.

Steel drums and tropical music set the scene, while the high production values that fans have come to know and love, mean the video is a fun romp as it recalls the main characters’ past in a dreamlike, paradise sort of way. It’s a lot of fun, and the catchy song will make it a great addition to your summer playlist.
