As Australian-American band The Dead Daisies gear up for a UK/Europe tour this autumn, they set the scene by dropping a fantastic video for their new biker anthem, ‘I’m Gonna Ride’. The hard-rocking track takes hold of the frustration of our times, and makes it clear that the only true path to freedom is through harnessing the miles on the open road and opening up full-throttle on a machine made for speed.
As always, founder and rhythm guitarist David Lowy is at the helm, as the band celebrates 12 years of recording and touring. The new release sees the band have a reunion of sorts, with the return of lead singer John Corabi, best known for his work with Mötley Crüe, and drummer Tommy Clufetos, who plays with Ozzy Osbourne and L.A. Rats, to perform alongside longtime lead guitarist Doug Alrich (Whitesnake, Dio) and new bassist Michael Devin (Whitesnake).
‘I’m Gonna Ride’ is the second single from The Dead Daisies’ soon to be released 7th studio album, ‘Light ‘Em Up’. Unlike the title track, which was rife with heavy riffs, the power behind the new track is to be found in the rhythm section, punctuated by the band’s signature soaring guitars, and stratospheric vocals.
Bold and propulsive, the track sets the listener free from the very first note, with the singer sharing the desire to hit the open road and its promise of endless freedom. “There’s a new sky waiting”, representing the hope that comes with taking chances and the change that comes with it.
Likewise, the music video doesn’t hold back, and sets it up with Jack Nicholson’s quote from ‘Easy Rider’ – “Talking about it and being it, that’s two different things”. The band are shown in cuts rocking hard on stage interspersed with bikers chewing up the miles on the highway. We are taken along for the ride as well, and the feeling of living free and unrestrained is actively palpable, and within our reach – if we only just be it, rather than just talk about it.
