A rising artist from Chicago, Dave Luv is known for his powerful lyricism and genre-blends that allow his listeners to take a musical journey to places as yet untraversed. Dave’s career path post high-school graduation seemed certain, but the Covid-19 pandemic hit soon after he started college, giving him an opportunity to focus instead on what he was most passionate about – music. He took the leap, and although he was doing well as a political science major, and despite the challenges that came along with it, Dave, like many other musical artists during the pandemic, embraced social media as a valid means by which to connect to others about the ups and downs of life.
Dave Luv’s new single, ‘Some Days’, sees him blend ballad and pop elements, while maintaining the hip hop flow he’s been most commonly labelled with. He takes his listeners on a journey through the ups and downs in life – happiness, heartbreak, triumph, tragedy, and redemption. It’s a rollercoaster ride that truly reflects what it’s all about, and as he draws inspiration from his own experiences, he creates truly relatable imagery.
‘Some Days’ examines the volatile emotions post breakup; sadness, loss, anger, and eventually, acceptance. With lyrics expressing the evocative message about the imperfection of life, he adds that it’s futile to continue chasing happiness, while focusing on the negative. Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. The present is the real gift.
The music video for ‘Some Days’, directed by Nick Jandora, is a very cool visual extension of the narrative of the song. Dave is seen with face painted in clown makeup, sad and lonely, forever chasing happiness in the form of an elusive smiley-face balloon. Dave was taken out of his comfort zone (he was hesitant to wear the clown makeup), yet despite this he threw himself into the vision, and and brought the character to life.
