Rising hip hop phenomenon TYTE was born in Tallahassee Florida, and has transformed his adversity to positivity, with his no-nonsense effortless flow. Born Jeffrey Williams in Tallahassee Florida, his instantly recognisable voice, commanding vibe and lyrics quickly found a home among listeners in this era where TikTok serves as a major place to discover artists. Tracks like, ‘FYP’, and ‘Ask Around‘, have seen all TYTE’s hard work pay off, as his listeners have found a home with his sound, and his lyrics based on the hard-knock, street-wise, genuine experience of his upbringing and teen years.
TYTE’s latest single, ‘Whole 9’, is an homage to his upbringing, which has made him who he is today. With a first-person perspective, we are immersed into the slang, goals, and flexes that TYTE holds dear, as well as supplementary perspectives provided by his collaborators SliffJit and C Stunna, whose fire verses are laid over the classic bass-heavy beat from Ethan “Walk” Jason Walker.
The music video for ‘Whole 9’, directed by Counterpoint 2.0, is more like a short film as it takes a closer look at TYTE’s pre-rap star life. We follow TYTE and his crew on a heist, as they hold up a jewellery store. TYTE is a man who knows what he wants in life and music, and he’s going to take it by force. SpliffJit and C Stunna make appearances in the clip, surrounded by the sunny Florida landscapes, and all of them dress in white with face masks, as they take the scene by storm.
