Earlier today, Afro Pop star Ruger released his latest single, ‘Kristy’, on Spotify and other streaming platforms. The young artist is only 23 and taking the world by storm, with millions of monthly listeners on Spotify already in his career, and hundreds of millions of streams on major Digital Streaming Platforms. Now, the budding star seeks to expand his discography with his latest song, ‘Kristy’, which is already shaping up to be a hit.
Ruger (real name Michael Adebayo Olayinka) first took up music at a young age, being part of a church choir and a band in his school. He began creating his own music shortly after, performing at various different shows in his hometown of Lagos. Fellow Nigerian afropop musician D’Prince found Olayinka at one of these shows, where he gave him his stage name of Ruger. One of his first songs, titled ‘Bounce’, recorded 60 million views on YouTube, and Ruger nearly became a household name overnight, with the song being the catalyst for his nomination for “Songwriter Of The Year” at the Beatz Awards. By today, the singer’s discography spans 2 EPs, several awards and over a dozen singles, with his latest, ‘Kristy’, joining that list.
The song itself is an incredible afro pop anthem, some of Ruger’s best work yet. It combines his energetic, passionate vocals with an irresistible rhythm to move along to. The lyrics detail a captivating story of love, desire and happiness, with Ruger’s delivery intensifying the beautiful message. ‘Kristy’ is like his previous work, dialled up to 11, with better production quality and vocals than ever before; it’s shaping up to be a hit already, and absolutely worth lending your ears to for four minutes.
