Nia Lexo Releases Incredible Sailor Moon Inspired Album, ‘THE SENSHI’

Out now, ‘The Senshi’ is the debut solo album from Nia Lexo. The mysterious and enigmatic artist started out as a dancer in the 2010s and worked as a member of a dance team, backing up local singers in St Petersburg.

This experience fired up her determination to succeed, and after graduating from The University of Culture and Arts, she worked as a backstage manager for a prestigious promotions company, working on the Northern European tours of artists as diverse as Sarah Brightman, Alice Cooper, and Andrea Bocelli. This didn’t fulfil Nia completely, and so she began in 2020 to perform live, with covers of Lady Gaga’s songs, accompanied by Nia’s original choreography. This led to her being discovered by rock band Red God, who invited Nia to join them as their vocalist and English vocals lyricist.

Based on the Japanese 90s Anime series, ‘Sailor Moon’, the 8 track EP, ‘The Senshi’ sees Nia take a journey through a masterfully layered soundscape, taking inspiration from the likes of Michael and Janet Jackson, Madonna, and Britney Spears. Additionally, Nia takes inspiration from the art of Russian painter, Mikhail Vrubel, who worked in the Russian symbolist style, and who was a pioneer of Modernist art. Such is his influence, Nia even wrote a song referencing him, with the track, ‘Vrubel’, the 7th on the album. The singer tells the story of wanting someone to paint her like Mikhail Vrubel, with “melting colours, shining within”.

Nia’s vocals are strong and compelling, set against a synth and electronic instrumental. The artist describes the album as exploring the origins of the “lonely senshi Nia Lexo, who came to earth to bring her music and art from another galaxy”.

‘The Senshi’ was written, recorded, and produced in The House of Musicians recording studio, in Yerevan, Armenia, and took a 6 month period to complete, starting in August 2022 and finishing in February 2023. Fans of great music with interesting soundscapes will love ‘The Senshi’, which is out now and can be streamed and downloaded here.
