Straight out of Akron, Nashville, comes The Lori P. Davis Project. The artist, who has been at the centre of Akron’s party and event scene for many years, is taking what she’s learned as a master of ceremonies and applying it to her music, creating expressive and infinitely singable country-pop songs, that lend themselves perfectly to any occasion, and her first single, ‘Bad Boy’, should definitely find itself as part of the soundtrack on your next road-trip.
With soaring organs and incredible guitar licks, Lori and duet partner John Stafford tell the tale of a relationship that’s passionate, as well as quite a bit messy. Lori longs to tame her bad boy, and with verse after verse she continues to coo out her longing. It’s clear from hearing Lori sing that she calls among her inspirations the likes of Pat Benetar, Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, and even Miley Cyrus and Olivia Rodrigo. Her lyrics are written for and about those heartbroken girls, whose only release is to sing their woes into their hairbrush mics. And there’s plenty more where that came from, with ‘Bad Boy’ just the first in a long line of tracks set for release over the next year.
The music video for ‘Bad Boy’ was directed and produced by Lori herself, and opens up with Lori re-assuring her granddaughter that her prince charming will come one day. The clip suddenly takes a turn, and shows that there may be bad boys along the way to finding that prince however. With shots of Davis and Stafford belting out their tale of woe, we follow a small-town drama, which ultimately ends in the women empowering themselves to reject the bad boys, and find for themselves much better lovers. It’s a relatable song with a subject matter as old as time.
