Based in Detroit, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Mike Masch, who releases as Moment, has dropped his album, ‘In Time’. It’s clever play on the phrase “Moment In Time”, and just so happens to be the name of the opening song.
The 15 track album takes a deep dive into the world of hip hop and rap music, and every song is a certified hook-filled banger. Released on 1 October last year, ‘In Time’ is, in Moment’s words,
“a hip-hop fusion that integrates heavy undertones of electronica, classical, jazz, big beat, cinematic, and downtempo”
Songs like track 2, ‘Better Now’ express the emotion Moment felt writing and recording the album. In this one for instance, he discusses how he felt during lockdown, and how he feels now. He has immersed himself entirely in the genres in order to fully share his emotions, to great success.
Speaking about ‘In Time’, Moment says,
“The inspiration behind this album was to show a much broader range of not just musical production & ability but myself as a person in this world. So many different emotions, feelings & experiences mixed together to tell many handfuls of stories. I loved how this came together with a variety of my favorite genres, whether that is rap in general but also incorporating R&B, old school, electronic, classical, and jazz. The album is vital to me to tell my experiences and release the various thoughts & experiences in my mind. I believe this will inspire, motivate, and help others. I’ve always said that people have unique hobbies as a form of therapy and music creation just happens to be mine. It’s real, it’s authentic, it releases and frees. I know when others listen to it that they will understand this as I do.”
‘In Time’ encompasses the artist’s life long stud of and appreciation of music, and represents this effort come to fruition. A music production and audio engineering graduate, Moment also has extensive experience as a DJ, and has honed his one special style by way of attending concerts and studying a wide range of musical genres.
It’s difficult to choose just one stand out track, because every song is a sure-fire winner, but we particularly enjoyed the first three tracks, because they laid the foundations for the rest of the album. It flows a lot like a concept album, with each track joining the others in telling a story, eventually leading to the ultimate track, ‘Triumphant Rebel’, which, although it’s an instrumental, still essentially summarises all that has gone before, in a wave of peaceful electronic dance music.
‘In Time’ is out now, and can be streamed on Spotify, and streamed and downloaded on Bandcamp.
