Last month we described Star2 as a prolific artist, and we weren’t wrong, as he’s back with his latest single, ‘Big Bands’, featuring $tupid Young.
The Thai-born artist, based in San Diego, is a born storyteller. Star2’s releases reflects his determination, not only to drop music, but to deliver the very best. He’s a man with something to prove; and prove it he does, with his successful back-to-back hits like ‘Run Away’, ‘Thinkin Bout You’, and ‘Real Life’, he is truly a star too – just like his stage name.
New single, ‘Big Bands’, from his ‘Real Life’ EP, sees Star2 collaborating with Long Beach artist $tupid Young, a star in his own right, with gold records to his name.
‘Big Bands’ tells the story of those artists who grind away day and night, striving to make their dream become a reality. Speaking of $tupid Young, Star2 says,
“$tupid Young reps the Asian community and paved the way for all Asian rappers in the industry.”
Of course, we think Star2 has forged a way for Asian rappers himself, with his unique, yet highly relatable sound, that’s seen him not just gain a loyal fanbase among those of his Ka-ren community, but also the wider world. Star2 lays breezy rap bars over a beat that tell the tale of his youth, coming of age in the streets of City Heights, San Diego, as well as his determined rise to success, and, sometimes, his experiences exploring the finer things in life that Southern California has to offer. The music video for ‘Big Bands’, animated by Serbian artist Lubomir Atan, is inspired by Grand Theft Auto, and sees Star2 rolling with $tupid Young in their own version of the game, cruising in luxury after pulling off a bank heist. Star2 is the getaway driver, while $tupid Young is the robber, and they then hit a strip club, where they make the money rain. The video is the perfect match for the high energy of the song, and together should they should ensure another hit for Star2.
