Monsoon – ‘Third Voice’

Out of Athens, Georgia, indie rock band Monsoon broke out in 2015 with the long player, ‘Ride A Rolla’. Despite considerable success with the release, the band took a hiatus, and have in the meantime been honing their music. Now they’re back, and ahead of their upcoming album, ‘Ghost Party’, they last year released the singles, Don’t Move’, and ‘O Brother’. First track for 2022 is the single, ‘Third Voice’, along with a fun music video.

Sienna Chandler’s sweet vocals – reminiscent of Hayley Williams, with maybe a couple of dashes of P!nk – drip drop like the start of a tropical storm, ahead of the deluge of instruments – jangly guitars, bouncy bass, and thrashing drums. Monsoon is therefore an apt name for the three piece, which also includes Sienna’s long time musical partner, Joey Kegel, and new recruit, bassist Roan O’Reilly.

Speaking about the track, Chandler says,

“This song came out of the lab with a bonkers structure, and nonchalant genre shapeshift midway through. On paper, it’s all over the place and shouldn’t work. But my lab partner and I figured out its chemistry. ‘Third Voice’ has so much content to offer, it’s hard to believe it falls under the 3-minute mark. I’m proud of this one and excited to wear it as my Met Gala showpiece.”

The video for ‘Third Voice’ is set in a school with the group vying for a role in the drama production. There’s some fierce competition, and it’s all very ‘Glee’, or ‘High School Musical’, but eventually the roles are allocated (Roan getting lead female).

Turn ‘Third Voice’ up to 11, or 12 if it’s available. It’s out now and can be streamed on Spotify. You can find out more about Monsoon and their music – and we recommend you do – online on their official website, Facebook, and Instagram.
