Griff Wows At Sold Out Show At O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire 27 October

Griff, performing at the sold out O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, put on a short but excellent show on Wednesday night. She appeared on stage to a voiceover talking about her creative process before opening with the title track from her mixtape ‘One Foot in Front of the Other’ bouncing around on stage in a white puffy dress and signature ponytail.

After performing ‘Forgive Yourself’, a keyboard came out for’1,000,000 X Better’ which started with just Griff and her keyboard accompanied by the extremely loud crowd before transforming into a more upbeat performance. After a high energy performance of ‘Walk’ we were taken back to Griff, a keyboard and a single spotlight for ‘Earl Grey Tea’. After this Griff made loops of the audience stomping and clapping to accompany her for ‘Sound of Your Voice’.

Halfway through, the patchwork curtain behind her (later revealed to have been sewn by Griff herself the night before) fell to show a heart-shaped set piece in which she performed ‘Heart of Gold’ mashed up with a good cover of Lorde hit ‘Royals’.

Griff’s fans were incredibly organised and dedicated, handing out yellow confetti to turn our phone lights yellow during ‘Shade of Yellow’, throwing yellow roses on stage during the closing song and presenting Griff with a handmade jacket midway through the show which she wore to perform ‘Good Stuff’ with just her guitar as accompaniment. Griff closed the show with her biggest single ‘Black Hole’ starting with an acoustic intro then, after a fade to black, continuing with a fuller, more upbeat production to close out the night.

I thought it was a highly entertaining and innovative show, especially for such a new artist. Griff put a new spin on almost every track she played and the crowd were entertained and singing and dancing the whole time. The set was just under an hour but I look forward to seeing a longer show from her in the future because Griff certainly knows how to put on a good show!
