Corbu & Jimi Goodwin – ‘Lost & Found’

Corbu derive their name from the architect, designer and artist, Le Corbusier, and as such you’d expect them to take structure seriously. Based in Brooklyn, the electronic-psych duo comprising Amanda Scott and Jonathan Graves, have for their latest single, ‘Lost & Found’, joined forces with one of their heroes and inspirations: singer, songwriter, and bassist Jimi Goodwin of Manchester, UK electronic rock band Doves.

Goodwin co-wrote the track with Corbu, as well as mixed it, and he imparted some of his distinctive personality along the way, with the end result a track which combines that wide-screen, epic, astral feel of Doves are known for, with big production, yet still maintaining an approachable scale. The single is mesmerising and yet pleasantly destabilising, an is an irresistibly buzzing summertime tune. The track comes from the forthcoming ‘Lost & Found’ EP, set for release on June 4.

While Corbu have made Brooklyn their home for the past half decade, and have become an indispensable part of the New York City psychedelic pop underground in that time, both Scott and Graves are originally from Pittsburgh, and for the ‘Lost & Found’ video, Corbu take us back to Western Pennsylvania, heightening the already-otherworldly feel of the illumination and landscape by blurring the footage, speeding up the action, and saturating the frames with natural light. Plunging the viewer into a verdant dream filled with gentle contours and inviting textures, we are immersed in the beauty of nature, the pleasure of togetherness, and the transcendent quality of psychedelic pop – and psychedelic filmmaking, too.
