Nick Hawk is an interesting man, and it’s not just because he’s a dab hand at an attention-grabbing song title. The breakout star of Showtime’s ‘Gigolos’, he’s a world champion blackbelt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, and an Air Force veteran. He’s an author too, of his book, ‘100 Kicks In The Ass’. He dives with Great White sharks, he’s a Kundalini-Tantric Sorcerer…and his penis is insured for a million dollars. Too much information you say? Okay well lets get on to his music.
Making his musical debut in 2012, Hawk nowadays has a gold record (his single, ‘We Fight’), and a whopping 15 singles under his belt. His music has been featured on Eminem’s Shade 45, ‘The All Out Show’, and he freestyled on 50 Cent’s ‘This Is 50’ show. Hawk wrote a song for, and co-starred in the movie, ‘American Justice’, and has performed at The Palms, and Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. Nick Hawk’s latest single, ‘You Can’t Talk As Much Shit As Me’, sounds like a challenge to others, but really? Who can even come close? I mean…that penis thing, for starters.
Growing up poor, Hawk didn’t have the money for instruments, so he started rapping. From there he slowly made his way to owning a guitar, then a drum set, then a grand piano. Now he’s got his own band. The new song is a gritty banger with a trap beat that both musically and lyrically, owes something to old skool rappers like Eminem, and Method Man, others who’ve also clawed their way to the top. The song is the opening track from Hawk’s third album, and it’s both a slow burner and a lit flame; with the intensity of an artist who’s got something to say – but doesn’t need to prove one damn thing.
The music video for ‘You Can’t Talk As Much Shit As Me’ was shot on Sunrise Mountain, in Las Vegas. Hawk scaled the 30 foot walls of the mountain for the very first time, just to make the video, and in the end, had to leave his camera person behind. He had a tripod on hand, but luckily a fellow hiker was in the area, and Hawk paid a few hundred dollars to shoot some shots.
Jumping from Sunrise Mountain, to the gorgeous backdrop of Las Vegas, and Lake Mead, we’re then treated to footage of Hawk in his own playground, on his speedboat. He may talk a lot of shit, but he’s got the readies to back himself up.
