In the clip for his new single, ‘La Puerta Oculta’, Salvadorian-American rock singer Daglio confronts suddenly being granted a superpower – and has to make the choice between hesitating, and diving straight into the wild and fantastic world newly presented to him.
A native of El Salvador, but now living in Cincinnati, Ohio, Daglio is a masterful musician and an incredibly adept rock guitarist, and his work with the rock groups, Ultravioleta and Smoke & Mirrors, saw him draw equally from alternative music and the explosive Latin American pop-rock of the 80s and 90s. In his solo work however, his musical influences are balanced with immense grace and skill. Although ‘La Puerta Oculta’ is sung in Spanish, the meaning isn’t lost, especially in conjunction with the music video. He’s writing about hidden doors – those between ideas, between cultures, and between states of mind that we sometimes find we’re walking through without even knowing what we’ve done.
Daglio’s upcoming EP, also called ‘La Puerta Oculta’, will come with a graphic novel, which will intensify and extend the science-fiction themes of his songs, and acts as a transmission from Daglio the explorer: the pilot of space and time, defying expectations, demanding that the laws of physics bend to his will.
The clip for ‘La Puerta Oculta’ brings the graphic novel to life, and sees Daglio in the role of a janitor at a high-tech laboratory, asking questions about the machines and chemical solutions in his vicinity but with no real clue about their function. From time to time he’s assisting (and maybe irritating a little) the scientist, sweeping up any messes, while also following his desire to investigate. Circumstances lead to him becoming the accidental inheritor of the marvels that the scientist has been working on, and without understanding what he’s doing, he activates the devices and strides into another world. In this way, Daglio taking the same brave step into the dark that every artist has to take, and Daglio makes that move with confidence and curiosity.
