Phantom Wave Take Us On An Ethereal Journey With New Single ‘Billows’

Phantom Wave are from Brooklyn, New York, comprising core members Ian Carpenter on guitar and vocals, and Rachel Fischer, on drums. Their new single, ‘Billows’, was released on January 8, ahead of their debut LP, ‘Wilds’, which is set to come out on the 19th of March.

Phantom Wave have probably never heard of them, but the first thing I thought of when I listened to ‘Billows’, was classic Australian indie rock band, The Church. I think it’s primarily the vocals, but it’s also the use of lots of hi hat, together with swirling amounts of dream pop guitar. It’s an ethereal wave of sound, dynamic and fluid, giving the ear-appearance of a spontaneous jam session, but knowing full well that it’s an illusion, these artists know what they’re doing and have set out to do it this way.

Phantom Wave first formed in 2017, and have successfully merged their respective musical histories with their sound which blends just enough fuzz, reverb, and delay, to create a perfect ear-feel. Prior to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the band were gigging around New York. Hopefully they’ll get the chance to return to performing later this year.
