Three rockers from the heart of Boston, Michael, Adam, and Kevin, are the heart and soul of Elsewhere, who seamlessly blend progressive rock, punk, and power pop in their music. The lyric video for their latest single, ‘The Pledge’, addresses the difficult topic of Alzheimer’s Disease, and was released in time for November, the month for National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness.
Increasingly we’re discovering that there is a direct correlation between ageing and disease, and harsh as it is, it’s something we need to accept as we get older. In ‘The Pledge’, mixed by Grammy nominated producer, Mark Needham, we’re taking on a rollercoaster journey shown from two different perspectives; the one is someone with the disease, and the other is a person close to the sufferer, who finds it difficult to process and understand what’s truly happening.
‘The Pledge’ is a “banthem”, a combination of a ballad and an anthem, and in true anthemic style it ends with positivity and hope, with the soaring lyrics such as,
“When we have won / and we have won / It will be because of love.”
Diseases like Alzheimer’s, while there is yet no cure, will ultimately be defeated with optimism and faith.
In Elsewhere, Michael writes the band’s music and lyrics, Adam is a prodigious drummer, and Kevin, aka “Thundersnow”, keeps the sound all together with his bass playing. The trio have been musicians since their teens, and, with diverse inspiration from the likes of Rush, Duran Duran, and The Sex Pistols, they come together to push the limits of conventional rock, in a wave of emotional release, raw angst, and ambitious energy.
‘The Pledge’ is a subject that is close to Michael’s heart, and is based on his own experience with his mother, who has Alzheimer’s Disease. With his song, he hopes to create awareness and inspire the millions who feel their loved ones slipping away from what they were before. He holds the pharmaceutical companies responsible for their false starts, but whatever the outcome, with ‘The Pledge’, he clearly conveys the truth that love will prevail, and is key to being able to deal with the challenging times we’re dealt with in life.
