A-Lister – ‘GROOVE-A’

A-Lister is a multi-genre art-pop enigma, but we don’t mind because their music is filled with an optimism that’s needed in any time, and of course these current troubling times. They bring bright pure California sunshine direct to our souls, with latest single, ‘GROOVE-A’ filled with enough energy to recharge our weary bodies.

The sound falls somewhere between contemporary pop, modern soul, funk, and electro rap, while the song feels as though its inspired by film sound tracks, complete with the big bombastic sound we associate with blockbusters.

The accompanying music video is a virtual tour of the hot spots of LA, and if you’ve ever been a tourist there you’ll instantly recognise Santa Monica, and Hollywood Boulevard – maybe you can even see yourself in the video! The clip sees a range of people singing along to the song, with the mysterious A-Lister appearing as a cartoon figure.

It’s a gentle send up of the Hollywood celebrity culture, and it’s a lot of fun. A-Lister’s name is atop the Capitol Records Building, on the hoarding of the El Capitan Theater, and of course, as a Star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. With both artist and audience having fun, it goes to remind us that music is more to do with the effect it has on the human soul, rather than any popularity contest.
